What is VOIP

January 23, 2018

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. In its simplest form.  It uses the Internet rather than a fixed line like ISDN or PSTN like you have at home to make and receive calls.

The key advantage is that with VoIP there are no line rental charges as most businesses already have a Broadband or Leased line connection to the Internet.  Call minutes are often part of the call package or have cheaper calls per minute than a traditional system.

VoIP has a lot of advantages over the traditional phone system.  The VoIP systems are more reliable as they are managed 24/7 by skilled engineers and new features are constantly being introduced with no extra costs.

Customers like is the flexibility a VoIP system offers.  More and more businesses are taking advantage of flexible working.  Workers are able to work from anywhere when connected to the Internet. Helping company's reduce office space and improve efficiency.

VoIP is not a new technology.  It was first introduced in the 90's.  Since then the systems have evolved and are now the fastest growing form of communication for businesses.  By 2025 all phone systems in the UK will use VoIP.
